Why: When you make it at home, you control what goes into your food. If a recipe calls for an unhealthy/chemical ingredient, you can replace it with something that better fits your nutrition goals. Sugar amounts can almost always be up to halved without sacrificing taste and you won't need preservatives since you'll be eating it right away!
To make this a permanent solution: Make a list of meals you love to eat out and one by one, try to make them at home. Some of them may taste even better - add them to your success list and treat yourself to these at home instead of out as often as you can.
